On July 25th, 2022, a search warrant was executed by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office at a residence located at State Highway 349 in Mayfield, NY stemming from an animal complaint. The residence is occupied by Susan Kelly and is home to “Kelly’s Haven” a “rescue organization” with a history of animal hoarding and cruelty complaints spanning over decades. Upon investigation by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, approximately fifty-two (52) dogs (50 living and 2 deceased), two (2) rabbits, two (2) goats, one (1) horse and over a dozen ducks and chickens were found to be living on the property, primarily outdoors and in filthy, uninhabitable conditions. Clean water and appropriate shelter were scarce.

The seizure of the animals is being led and organized by both the James A. Brennan Memorial Humane Society and Fulton County Regional SPCA with sheltering assistance from Ayres Memorial Shelter.

At this time the animals are being evaluated and treated by veterinarians and are in the care of the above-named agencies. The investigation is ongoing. The cost to care for the animals, including veterinary care, and legal fees for the rescue agencies will be significant. Those interested in helping can send monetary donations to the rescue(s) of their choice.

For more information, please contact the above contacts and/or the Fulton County Sheriff, Richard Giardino.

For donations towards the care of these animals, please go to https://fcrspca.org/donatenow and use the designation “Kelly’s Haven Animals”.
